Common questions
Answers to frequent questions
What deadlines apply after a car accident in Ontario?
You should notify your insurer within 7 days of the accident and submit the accident benefits application within 30 days of receiving it. To sue the at-fault driver, written notice should be given within 120 days and a claim generally must be started within two years.
How soon do I need to act after a slip and fall?
Very soon. For a fall on municipal property you must give the municipality written notice within 10 days. For a fall on private property caused by snow or ice, written notice must generally be given to the owner or occupier within 60 days. Call us right away so these deadlines are not missed.
I was on a bike or on foot and don’t own a car. Can I still claim accident benefits?
Yes. If you were injured by a motor vehicle, you may claim through a household member’s policy, or through the insurer of the vehicle that struck you. If no policy applies, the Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund may respond.
What do I need to bring for a child travel consent letter?
Valid government photo ID for each consenting parent or guardian, the child’s passport or birth certificate details, and the travel details — destination, dates and the name of the accompanying adult. We will prepare the letter and notarize your signature.
