Property Damage Litigation
Slip & fall injuries on unsafe premises and claims for damage to your home, vehicle or property caused by someone else’s negligence.
Owners and occupiers of property in Ontario have a legal duty to keep their premises reasonably safe. When they fail to clear ice, repair broken stairs or warn of hazards, people get hurt — and the owner and their insurer can be held responsible.
We also act for clients whose property has been damaged by a neighbour, contractor, landlord or driver, and in disputes with insurers who refuse to pay a legitimate property claim.
How we can help
Slip & fall injuries
Falls in stores, restaurants, condos, rental buildings and parking lots.
Municipal sidewalk claims
Trips and falls on city sidewalks and roads, which carry very short notice deadlines.
Ice and snow falls
Injuries caused by uncleared or poorly maintained winter surfaces.
Property damage claims
Water, fire, vehicle and contractor damage, and denied property insurance claims.
Frequently asked questions
How soon do I need to act after a slip and fall?
Very soon. For a fall on municipal property you must give the municipality written notice within 10 days. For a fall on private property caused by snow or ice, written notice must generally be given to the owner or occupier within 60 days. Call us right away so these deadlines are not missed.
What evidence should I keep?
Photographs of the hazard and the area, names of witnesses, incident reports, your footwear, and all medical records and receipts. Take photos as soon as you safely can — conditions change quickly.
